The London Low Emission Zone Explained

The 'Low Emission Zone' was introduced in 2008 to encourage the most polluting vehicles driving in London to become cleaner by penalising owners with charges and taxes.

The LEZ covers most of Greater London within the M25 circular.

The London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is NOT the same as the central London Congestion Zone.

There is a daily charge to drive within the London Low Emission Zone unless your vehicle meets certain emission standards that limit the amount of pollution coming from the exhaust.

From 3rd January 2012 the London Low Emission Zone no charge standards will be raised so that more vehicles will be affected and more vehicles will incur charges to drive in the London LEZ.
